How Should I Use My Coupons?

  • You may only use a coupon once.  You are not able to purchase ten items and use one coupon on all ten items.  If you only have one coupon, you can only purchase one item with that coupon.  You are free to purchase multiple items, but you will have to pay full price on those items.

  • You may only use one manufacturer coupon and one store coupon per item.  Most stores will allow you to use one manufacturer coupon and one store coupon per item that you purchase.  However, you may only use one manufacturer coupon per item, regardless of the coupon’s price.

Scenario:  You have two manufacturer coupons and one store coupon for Bounty paper towels.  Your coupons are as follows:

Manufacturer coupon: $1.50 off ANY Bounty paper towel purchase

Manufacturer coupon: $2.50/2 Bounty paper towel purchase

Store coupon: $1.00 off ANY Bounty paper towel purchase

With this scenario, you have two choices.  You can purchase two Bounty paper towels and use the Manufacturer coupon – $2.50/2 and the Store coupon – $1.00 for a total savings of $3.50/2.  OR you can purchase one Bounty paper towel and use the Manufacturer coupon – $1.50 and the Store coupon – $1.00 for a total savings of $2.50/1.

Now, if you had TWO store coupons that read $1.00 off ANY Bounty paper towel purchase, you could use the Manufacturer coupon – $2.50/2 and STACK it with two Store coupons: $1.00/1 for a total savings of $4.50/2.  Read more about how to STACK your coupons here.

  • It is illegal to copy coupons.  It doesn’t matter if the original coupon was a manufacturer coupon, store coupon or online printable coupon.  It is always illegal to copy the coupons.  Coupons should be treated just like you would cash.  You wouldn’t copy a dollar bill and try to use it in the store… copying coupons should be no different.  If you need multiple manufacturer coupons, purchase additional newspapers or get them from other sources.  See Where to Find Coupons for more details.  Most online printable coupons will allow you to print the coupons two times per computer.

  • You may use your coupon on any product that is listed on the coupon.  You do not have to purchase the item that is pictured if your coupon allows for the purchase of other items in the coupon print.  Always check the coupon print to find the eligible items.

  • You may use your coupon on a sale or clearance item.  In fact, that is the best time to use your coupons!  If the coupon value is greater than the item’s price, you will have to check the store’s COUPON POLICY to see what happens next.  Some stores will apply the coupon’s overage to the remainder of your bill and other stores will reduce the value of the coupon to that of the item’s price.  Find and Print store coupon policies on our Coupon Policies page.

  • Always watch closely as the coupons are scanned.  Sometimes a store’s computer will reduce the value of a coupon.  Watch as each coupon is scanned to be sure that you are receiving the FULL value of the coupon.

  • Take a copy of the store’s coupon policy with you.  Some cashiers are misinformed as to how coupons are used in their store.  You can find Store Coupon Policies on our Coupon Policies Page.
