Summer is here and the kids are ready to have some fun, but is your budget? 

Taking trips to the water park, amusement parks, state fairs and other activities can get very expensive! Parents tend to walk a thin line during summer break, keeping the kids entertained and the parents wallet book happy.

I’ve come up with some activities you can do for under $5! 

Enjoy Your Local Water Hole

Taking the kids for a dip in the river, lake or beach is a great way to enjoy summer! Most watering holes are run by the state so there normally is a fee to park. Depending on the area you live in this could range between $2 and $6! I would say that is a pretty good deal for an entire day of family fun.

Have a Water Day

Get some water balloons, super soakers and your sprinklers and have a water day right in your front yard. The kids will love throwing water ballons at each and running through the sprinklers. You can usually find water balloons and super soakers at your local dollar store. Invite the neighborhood kids over and make a day of it!

Geocaching 

Geocaching is one of those activities you can do over and over again at almost no cost! The kids will have a blast going geocaching and even adults enjoy this activity. If you are not familiar with what geocaching is you can read all about it here. This is an activity that can keep your family busy all summer. 

Have a Campout

You don’t need a bunch of expensive camping gear to go camping. If you have a backyard then you can have a campout at almost no cost at all. Gather up your sleeping bags, grab some marshmallows and get a camp fire going even if it’s just in a barbecue pit. Leave the phones, iPads and other electronics in the house and enjoy some quality family time. Roast marshmallows, tell ghost stories and do some star-gazing. This is a great way to enjoy summer on a budget and create long-lasting family memories.
